How to wear - The Françoise.

There are so many questions surrounding layers and adding volume and movement to fine hair.

The chances are that at some point in your life you typed in the words:

  • “Volumising Products for fine hair”

  • “Haircuts for fine hair”

  • “Bobs/ Fringes for fine hair”

  • “Hairstyles for fine hair over 50”

Does one of these strike a chord? Perhaps it evokes memories of some horrendously sticky hair mousse that promised to turn you from Ian Beale in to Beyonce, and instead left you with false hope and flatter roots.

The reality is there will always be a new product promising volume and a few more days without needing to shampoo. Fad haircuts will continue to come around that claim to make your hair feel thicker than ever before, leaving you clutching at thin ends and wielding heat styling tools like an episode of Game of Thrones.

Whether you have Fine and Straight, Fine and Wavy or Fine and Curly, we believe that by approaching your hair with certain principles- in the haircut you go for, the products to use and knowledge in the way you style it, then you will get the most out of your hair with it getting the least out of you.

No two heads are the same, neither hair. So there is never one perfect haircut or product. Just a great understanding of what is best for your own hair, some confidence in how to style it, and a few fundamental points to acknowledge when it comes to both the haircut, and the products you should be looking to find.

A few of our clients share what works for them below, enjoy!

Usually I let it air dry, adding a small drop of Isle of roses hair oil, then tucking the front pieces behind my ears and twisting it into a bun secured with a hair claw so there’s some texture and movement to it when dry.

  • Sometimes I’ll add some sea salt spray too. If I have more time, I’ll add some Superdrug mousse (as recommended by The Hair Bros!),  blow dry it with a round brush & create soft waves using a wide barrel curler (I still use one by BaByliss that I’ve had for years).

I apply Rice Bran Oil to my hair the night before I wash my hair.

  • After washing, I brush it all forwards and draw a parting. I use a towel to dry and scrunch my hair upwards and away from my scalp.

  • I then leave to air dry. Once almost dried, and depending on whether my hair is naturally sitting right, I’ll add a sugar spray as well.

I style my hair with the revlon hairdryer barrel brush to give it lots of body. I try to avoid dense conditioning so it stays light weight and retains bounce.

As a final extra step I always use to redken extreme leave in conditioner. This is because my hairs fine structure means breakage is prone and I find this leave in is great for retaining my hair’s condition and making it much stronger.

My daily routine since I found The Hair Bros is... er wake up and go! I wash my hair, towel dry and a few sprays of salt spray and leave my hair to dry and it’s as easy as that!

I’ve gone from using straighteners on my hair every day to not having to do anything at all! I’m so happy with how the cut styles itself. If I’m going out in the evenings sometimes I might use my straighteners to go over the curl or I’ve just bought the Ckeyin Hair Barrel from amazon which really emphasises the beachy look.

I’ve been meaning to order the products you recommended , especially the sandcastle one because that looked fun!

But I honestly do absolutely nothing, I just get out the shower and occasionally dry it with a Tshirt, and just let it chill. I feel like maybe that’s a lockdown thing. Pre-lockdown I’d use some of that lush R+B hair moisturiser which was really good to make it less dry at the ends when it was long but don’t need that anymore thanks to you!

I am totally in love with air drying and never want to go back to blow drying my hair. I had to blow dry my hair last week and the results were awful. 🙅🏻‍♀️

I wash/condition my hair 2-3 times a week, whilst my hair is damp I put a bit of coconut oil and let it air dry. When I style it I use a little bit of Hersheson's cream as a heat protector and that's it. Don't use any other things. 😬
